My Journey Part 2

I continued working hard to deliver on my tasks but like with any projects there are certain tasks that are delayed or performed not according to the specification. This did not sit well with my supervisor, it seemed that regardless of how I performed at a task it never met his requirements even if those requirements were set by him. Now I am of the firm belief that the breakdown in any relationship is never on just one party but on both individuals, In my working relationship with my supervisor however it seemed like he was hell bent on making me the villain, by labelling me as the underperforming employee.  He seemed not willing to see how things could be resolved together. I cannot and will not speculate on his behavior but I do know that his views made it impossible for him to handle our working environment better through his comments that usually carried micro aggressions by referencing my gender when it came down to perform certain tasks.

Sadly enough I parted with the organization after my contract was not renewed. I was devastated and my confidence in my ability as a developer received a major blow. But I had to find a way to move on, pick myself up consolidate all the lessons learnt and find the next step. I had come a long way as a developer, by now I knew that I wanted to go into mobile development specifically android. And thank God for online scholarships I was able to get one with Google Developer programs. While seeking for new employment I was learning android app development, trying to sharpen my skills here and there. The thing about new experiences is that they can also lead you to other new worlds that you had not initially intended to seek but stumble upon. Mine led me to cloud developing resources that Google offers. It was how I was able to gain some backend experience with firebase cloud resources by using firebase real-time databases.

Hence life continued, I found employment eventually but it was after some time. It was by definition under the technology banner but rarely gave my developer abilities an opportunity to be put on display. Malawi is a small country with an even smaller technology sector and opportunities are not as lofty.  While in this position I applied for the ALX software engineering program. The broad range it had in exposing me to both frontend and backend is really what drew me to it in the first place. I was elated when I was chosen to be honest just to have somewhat of a new start. In the first few months it was all fun and games. Till the amount of work started weighing heavy on me amid other work demands, I contemplated quitting the program every other week I think.

But in the end I am glad that I did not, because having been on several online developer programs and I am so thankful for the knowledge, skills and exposure. This this program has allowed me to recover lost hope and dreams like being a full- stack developer. But above all this there has been a revelation of me offering all that I am which includes a software engineer to contribute what I can in so many other areas that I had never really thought of.  The thing is though, that the journey has not stopped so here is to embracing every minute of it while I am still in motion.
