Being Women’s month I thought it only right that I do something. A couple of months ago I wrote an article about my first experience with a computer that sparked my interest and love of technology. I talked about how, I had felt like an outsider looking into an elite club that I wasn’t invited to. How even after several years in the industry there were times I would walk into a room and I would feel like that little girl again seeking to be welcomed to this elite club. That my only way to defeat my inner demons was to tell that little girl that I never needed their invite to do what I love I just needed to do it.

Then a few weeks later I was talking to my niece who was about to start college. Now my niece had used my laptop before mainly to get movies and series so I had just assumed she knew all about it. But on this particular day that she came to visit, she said words that stirred something in me, by announcing that she did not in fact know how to use a laptop. After gaining my composure from the initial shock a few seconds later it dawned on me that, what she meant was knowing and understanding the full entirely of the machine. I was flabbergasted at her statement and continued quizzing her, she informed me that computer studies was only offered to students in the senior year at school and even then it was optional. Reading through the lines I gathered that she had wanted to take the subject but was persuaded to do otherwise by friends and teachers as it was not deemed important.

It made me sad that even now women in her generation have to play catch up to the men when they finally get into the employment sector. That ten years from experiences in college the pattern was still going on. I felt the injustice and unfairness of it all but also felt powerless I could do anything being one has never been much for speaking up. As I am a well assured introvert. However someone once told me that not all of us are given the same things in life, but one thing we are given for sure is something. So I chose to do what I could do and that is write. That is my Do something in this Women’s month.

Happy Women’s month.💗💜
